David Campany is a London based writer, curator, and artist. The images for this T-shirt are taken from his book Gasoline; a collection of press photos of American gas stations published by MACK.

“A news photo of a woman waiting in line to fill her car with gasoline. It was the 1970s, the decade of global oil price instability. Today there are other instabilities. Will the oil run dry before the planet collapses? I bought the photo on eBay for $15. Now it’s a T-shirt.”

You can buy David’s T-shirt as part of our T-shirt subscription – where you receive the next 5 T-shirts as soon as they come out for only £100. The ideal present for a loved one, or for yourself! You can easily sign up here, and your gift will continue to give throughout 2018. For more information visit our website. It is also available to buy here as a one off purchase.

Sean Vegezzi: DMYCC Exhibition
10 Dec 17 – 7 Jan 18
11 Bohemia Place
London E8 1DU

DMYCC began in Manhattan in 2005, when Vegezzi and his friends gained access to a vast underground space in Chinatown. Built in the 1970s by the New York City Transit Authority, the publicly inaccessible space lay derelict and unused for decades until its discovery by the artist. Vegezzi and a community of collaborators began renovating the space: painting, creating a working drainage system, repairing electricity lines, building storage areas, installing lighting and improving the air quality with dust control chemicals.

The DMYCC exhibition is comprised of the book, an hour long video piece and his first ever collection of prints.

DoBeDo is happy to announce the release of Tshirt #020 in the ‘DoBeDo Photographers Series’ – ‘Paintings’ by Harley Weir.

Paintings, an image from Weir’s new book of the same title – which is being published by Loose Joints – presents an image that digresses from the artist’s traditional photographic practice. Rather than confronting the concerns of trust, power and permission that weigh heavily upon her work produced for the fashion industry, Paintings shifts her attention onto the rhythm, colour and form of surfaces. This image, alongside the rest of the collection, is the result of consistent visual studies made by Weir throughout the past three years.
The Tshirt is embroidered on the front with Harley’s initials HVW and has a full colour print on the back.

It is available to buy here. This Tshirt can also be purchased here (at a discount) as part of the DoBeDo Photographers Series Tshirt Subscription.
It is also available to buy as a special package along with the book on the Loose Joints website.

DoBeDo contributor Sean Vegezzi is releasing a new book, ‘DMYCC’, which documents the artists’ decade-long engagement with a cavernous underground area constructed beneath Lower Manhattan. DMYCC is comprised of the book, an hour long video piece and his first ever collection of prints.

As New York City experienced aggressive development and hyper-securitization of public and private realms, Vegezzi and his friends were drawn towards undefined spaces to pursue their own forms of autonomy and release. From early adolescence onward they leveraged this piece of failed architecture into an alternate social forum, stage, club, and studio space. Over the years we see DMYCC develop from a contaminated space with non-functioning utilities into one treated with dust control chemicals to improve air quality, a working drainage system, primed walls, repaired electricity lines and lighting systems.

The book is presented as a loose chronological narrative, with the images in DMYCC eventually forming a comprehensive mapping of the territory; ranging from early evocative analogue photographs of youthful explorations through to video stills, receipts, and architectural floor plans; concluding with full-scale photographic surveys that challenge bureaucratic structural reports in both detail and formal composition.

DMYCC is available to buy online here. The publication of DMYCC is also accompanied by the release of a collection of prints made available by the artist. More information is available here.

DoBeDo contributor Jamie Hawkesworth has an exhibition, Landscape with Tree, at Huis Marseille in Amsterdam.

Hawkesworth’s approach to photography is grounded in the subtle, elegiac and playful heritage of British documentary photography. With his works exhibited across the 14 rooms of the beautiful Huis Marseille, Hawkesworth aims to create a photographic experience in synergy with the architectural setting, and in anticipation of your engagement with the works.

In Landscape with Tree you can explore the spectrum of experiences that Hawkesworth has sought out with his camera of the past ten years, and the places this has ultimately taken him. The exhibition manifests his sustained and transitory intimacies, planned and unexpected journeys, and wonderful immersions.

The exhibition open until 3rd December 2017, at Huis Marseille

DoBeDo Contributor Nigel Shafran has been invited by Photoworks to create a ‘cabinet of curiosities’ for the Brighton Photo Biennal 2016, opening on Friday 30th September 2016.

A carefully edited installation, ‘Fashion Shows‘ combines unexpected images and objects that provide an alternative and visually rich view into notions of beauty as circulated by the fashion photography industry. The eclectic character of the installation is drawn out through objects including model cards and vintage beauty treatment manuals, creating connections that encourage us to examine the tools, strategies and distractions used by the fashion world.
Shafran will be in conversation with Professor Francis Hodgson on Saturday 1st October. Tickets are available here.

Fashion Shows‘ at BPB16 opens on Friday 30th September until 30th October 2016, at the University of Brighton Galleries – Dorset Place.

DoBeDo is proud to announce the launch of Tshirt #017 in the ‘DoBeDo Photographers Series Tshirt Subscription’ – ‘The Curious, The Suckered and The Regulars’ by Sean Vegezzi.
“An erect penis goes up against the new 1 World Trade Center. It stands like a sentry over Lower Manhattan, self-assured that its presence symbolizes the defeat of New York grime of yore: open air sex markets, emotionally disturbed wanderers, perpetrators of both serious and petty crime. The cock’s message is not one of nostalgia, nor does it romanticize the idea of an unsafe city. A timely erection can outlive concrete, glass and steel.”

The T-shirt comes with a free poster with text by Sean Vegezzi, designed by Edward Quarmby.

It is available to buy here or as part of the DoBeDo Photographers Series Subscription.

DoBeDo contributor Sean Vegezzi is releasing a booklet, ‘JOEY’ this weekend in New York City.

“Joey”, an affectionate colloquialism naming a stereotype of New York City’s builders – was the inspiration for a reading that took place in December 2014, eighty feet under Midtown Manhattan, inside of New York City Transit System’s 7 Line Extension Project. This event, video document, and compilation of poems, essays, and songs are part of an ongoing celebration of those who construct and labor over the spaces we move through and around – not the architects, designers or developers – but the Joeys.

‘JOEY’ is released on Saturday 12th December 2015 outside of 34th Street – Hudson Yards 7 Train Station.

DoBeDo contributor Dick Jewell has released his new publication, ‘four thousand threads’.

Examining the phenomena of online photo sharing, the book amasses a vast archive of photographs covering various ‘threads’, from planking to bombing and animal selfies. Much like the artist’s 1978 book Found Photos, this meticulously edited work reflects the artist’s long-term interests in communal behaviour and societal shifts.

Jewell’s book, ‘four thousand threads’ is available to buy here.

DoBeDo contributor Fumiko Imano is releasing her next book, ‘LA☆ – Love from Angels starring Fumiko Imano’.

The book documents twins visiting Los Angeles for the first time as tourists. Imano states that the ‘Angels’ are not the twins featured in the book, but more about the people she met there, who do not appear in the photographs.

‘LA☆ – Love from Angels starring Fumiko Imano’ is available from the following stockists:
Japan: Utrecht

If you would like to guarantee a DoBeDo t-shirt in time for Christmas, please place your order by Thursday 17th December (UK), or Monday 14th December (international).

A new t-shirt by Sean Vegezzi will be released next week.
